Text Trip Diary

January 22-28

January 22, 2005

Went to the lettuce festival. Saw the various vendors and tractor displays. Saw a house made of lettuce. Newspaper said it involved some 1,200 heads of lettuce. Saw Smokey the Deal Dog of local car advertising fame. Asked Bureau of Reclamation about the clam shells. Found out that they are freshwater clams.

January 23, 2005

Washed the pickup. Went through local ads. Watched football.

January 24, 2005

Worked on pictures, website. Visited Zodiac café with internet access.

January 25, 2005

Went to dentist appointment in Algadones. Looked around as vendors were opening up booths. Sat and drew scene outside of office, while dentist worked on Mel’s filling. $60 ending charge for an hours worth of filling a tooth. He chose not to have novocaine. Dentist went through 4 bits making sure they were sharp. Reported as best dentist experience ever. Looked around a few streets that we hadn’t seen before. Saw neat balancing/tilting metal bird yard decorations. Came back home. Took look at liquidators, 94 cent store and swap meet area. Purchased a neat dish drainer.

January 26, 2005

Day of laundry, house cleaning. Shopped at grocery outlet and got some nice prices on stuffing, hamburger helper, and meat marinade. Watched individuals in truck with laptops trying to figure out why most of the park can’t get wifi. Took out my computer to show. Their equipment had external antennae.

January 27, 2005

Went to two swap meets. Found interesting things. Went to Chris and Jim’s for dinner. Keiko got to run around in their fenced area. On way home we saw something odd looking. At first we thought the lights were part of a ferris wheel with the outer light moving faster than the inner light. However, if it was a ferris wheel then there was only two lights working. We watched. After the lights went in an arc, they stayed side by side swooped low and became 5 lights. These moved towards us. The lights went back to being two lights and did the arc thing again. Turns out it was a crop duster. Based on all the tourists who end up out in the lettuce fields out of curiosity, they tend to crop dust at night.

January 28, 2005

Woke up. Power went out. Heavy fog was in the area. Went back to bed for a hour. Packed up and headed to Tuscon. The desert is green and grass is growing along the road between Yuma and Tuscon. Arrived at Crazy Horse rv park. Had chicken dinner at the recreation center. The mashed potatoes didn’t meet our expectations. They had the potato peels in them and tasted like they had grease added to them. May have some nice sunset on cactus pictures from here. Looked at brochures for tourist attractions. Contacted Boyd and arranged to pick up mail.
